ASSESSMENT
The five Regional Health Authorities in partnership with the Provincial Health Services Authority (http://www.mcf.gov.bc.ca/regions/index.htm) provide multi-disciplinary assessment services for children (0-19) with significant difficulties in multiple areas of function including development and learning, mental health, and adaptive and social skills. Children who may have Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or other Complex Developmental Behaviour Conditions (CDBC) are assessed through these Assessment Network teams. Although the six Assessment Networks may follow a different referral process, each adheres to the provincial Health guidelines. For example, in the Northern region, referrals for assessment for FASD or CDBC will be accepted by a Family Physician, Pediatrician, or a Clinical Nurse Specialist/Practitioner. Elsewhere in the province referral is by Pediatrician or Psychiatrist only. For more information on the Assessment Networks, FASD Guidelines and CDBC, see:

Key Worker and Parent Support (MCFD):
Two services are available to assist families of children and youth with confirmed or suspected FASD: Key Workers and Parent Support.
Key Workers assist families in understanding FASD by providing education and information specific to the needs of the child and family. Parent Support includes local parent and grandparent FASD training, parent mentoring and parent support groups.
Key Worker and Parent Support offers support and FASD education opportunities for parents, grandparents, and caregivers of children and youth with FASD.
